About

In a world where words can hurt, I’d rather draw”

In my younger years, I was never much of a talker.
While as an adult I did outgrow the awkwardness, the fundamental shyness remained.

Ever since the internet became a daily part of everyone’s life, the written word has become a possibility.
And for a couple of years I have enjoyed expressing my story through blogging.
But lately I have found a way that works better than anything else:

Doodling

In 2020 I decided to make a career switch after 10 years of being an electrical engineer to become a full time illustrator.

My style is to use simple lines and vivid colors. if you need illustrations and you like that style, please drop me an email and we will figure something out that fits both us.

But in the meantime, I hope my drawings make you smile, chuckle or laugh! 😄

  1. Andrea, thank you for choosing to follow my blog, Bobbing Around. I hope my words will be of service to you for a long time. I am no good with drawing and the like, but paint with words.

    1. Thank you so much for your compliment!
I also prefer the grumpier/unimpressed looking doodles 😄.
Yes, I use a simple tablet and an app called Sketchbook. It is a very decent free app 🙂

  3. I have always admired those who can translate ideas into images/art. My dad was an amazing artist, unfortunately I only got the idea part…not the ability to translate it into anything that looks worth a hoot. Your gift is a shinning light on humanity- keep on shinning Andrea!

    1. Doodling is the best! I can’t seem to stop doing it, haha.
      Thank you!
I will say that my skills improved a lot when I started drawing digitally! It is just easier to make shapes and erase a mistake. I use the Sketchbook app. It is for free, ad free and really quite advanced 🙂

      1. Thanks for the app recommendation, Andrea! I will check it out. I mostly just doodle in notebooks while taking notes—in meetings, at church, etc. It helps to flesh out my notes.

  9. Wow — electrical engineering to illustrating? That’s quite a jump. I work in a hospital and I’ve met many career changers; I’ve met people who you’ve come from public school teaching to becoming a doctor or become coming from finance or even music producing. I find it all so fascinating!

    1. Right?!
I actually wrote a few posts about it. When I choose my education, I was barely 17, which is really quite young for such an important decision.
I am happy to have graduated from EE and have a decade of work experience in the field, because if this doesn’t work out, I have at least something to fall back on. But, if possible, I prefer to remain an illustrator! And not having a manager, makes me feel relaxed to, haha.

    1. But reading your About section… you’re kind of on same path as me, right?! 😀
I won’t pretend I make a full living out of it, unfortunately. But slowly I am becoming more knowledgeable on where to find a job!
Things became a lot easier for me when I started digital drawing. It just saves on pens, papers and markers. And it is easier to correct a mistake. 🙂

  10. Good for you for being courageous enough to switch your life around! I don’t make any money with my writing, but it feels like something I MUST do versus something I HAVE to do. There’s a huge distinction for me and I hope there is for you as well, and that you get great joy and fulfillment from creating your illustrations.

  11. Hey Andrea, it’s a curious intro. Very accurate, though. Since the influx of the internet, the spoken word has given many people a voice to be heard in an authentic unspoken manner!
Not to mention all the different avenues that have been ripped wide open for “creators.”
Of spoken word, written word, illustrated word, etc.
Well, in any event, I’m writing you to inform you I will be making a move to a website called Substack. The reason for letting you know this is it would appear you’re pretty active in liking or reading my content. And I would love to extend the invite to you upon getting my newsletter up and running! If that’s something of interest to you, please let me know. and I’ll be sure to get it out to you!
